History of the olive tree in Jordan

For 6,000 years, acres upon acres of olive tree groves have been tucked away in the midst of Jordan.

With thousands of years of experience in the cultivation of olive trees, Jordan is now unveiling its hidden treasure to the world: a distinctive and exceptional tasting extra virgin olive oil, brought to the world straight from the Kingdom’s historic olive trees.

Over the centuries, Jordanian farmers have nurtured the trees with passion and commitment, passing on their knowledge through the generations. This passion, which has been strengthened through time and generations, has spurred Jordanian farmers through the ages towards a deep and profound understanding of the olive tree; an understanding that is reflected in the distinct and perfected taste of Jordan’s olives and olive oil.

This deep understanding of the olive tree cultivation has also created a firm tradition in the making of oil. Jordanian olives, with their distinct taste, create oil that is rich and robust both in flavor and aroma, and it is this unique gift that Jordan presents to the world today.

Today, the olive tree is one of Jordan’s main natural resources with an estimated 15 million olive trees, with a growth rate of 1 million olive trees per year. Jordan’s olive groves occupy an estimated area of 110,000 hectares, divided between irrigated cultivation areas of 85,000 hectares and non-irrigated cultivation areas of 25,000 hectares.

Jordan’s exemplary blend of natural and human resources, coupled with the most attentive and sophisticated farming methods, have combined to make it a potentially leading global exporter of olive oil and olives.

Through Jordan’s Treasure Extra Virgin Olive Oil, the world can finally get a taste of what the Kingdom has been perfecting for millennia.

Farmers’ Guidance, The First Step Towards High Quality Production.

Olive farmers and growers play an intrinsic role in the production of the olive oil and much of the quality relies on their methods. Indeed they are the first part of the production chain and as such are required to ensure the highest degree of quality when harvesting the olives.

The farmers, under the supervision of the Integrated Olive Products (IOP), and coupled with their inherited knowledge of and passion for olive trees, have developed a deep understanding of planting and harvesting. They know the precise moment at which to manually pick the olives, and when the olives are most ripe for oil production, as they avoid mixing fallen olive fruits with the ones manually picked.

The harvest is then packaged into well-ventilated plastic crates and transported to the press within twenty-four hours of harvest time, thus guaranteeing premium quality olives for pressing by Jordan’s Treasure Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
